Go Ahead and Stuff Your Face with These Healthy Eats …

I know this is a weekend for indulging, but I must share with you a few of my newest favorite healthy foods:

1. The Peanut Butter Cookie Lara Bar

Health foodies everywhere are raving about this bar, and I feel as though I definitely need to add my two cents. This bar rocks! I am a peanut butter lover, and this Lara Bar tastes exactly like a peanut butter cookie. Too good to be true, right?

2. Lentil Salad

I made this baby with a three simple ingredients: Pre-cut veggies from Trader Joe’s, steamed Trader Joe’s lentils in a package and about 1/2 bottle of Annie’s Naturals Lite Gingerly Vinaigrette.

3. Food Should Taste Good Chocolate tortilla chips with salsa

These chips are so freaking good it’s ridiculous. The combination of a chip and chocolate (and salsa) sounds a bit strange, but the savory mixed with sweet is AWESOME. I am obsessed.

If you are looking for a tasty, healthy treat this weekend, give one of these a try. They are yummy, yummy in your tummy!

Coffee Politics … and Puke

So, yesterday we were in the local coffee shop and the barista introduced to us a coffee house special: The Barack Obama and John McCain blends. Buy one and which ever a candidate you choose gets a “vote,” he told us.

Dan observed the two bags of coffee, looked at the guy and said, “I would rather vomit in a cup and drink that instead of drink something with John McCain’s face on it.”

No, honey, tell us how you really feel.

The Coolest 15-Year-Old in the WORLD

My brother, Luke, sent his writer sister (that’s me) an essay to look over this evening. The essay was titled “Laugh, Play, Family” and in it he wrote:

“Finally, I cannot live without my family; they are the most important people to me in the world. My sister, Caroline, is one of my best friends in the world and without her to keep me in line I do not know where I would be today.”

He continued on to speak of my sister, youngest brother, mom and dad.

How did he get to be so cool and wise at 15 years old? Hell, I would love to think I played a part in it.

Hey, Luke, without you, honey, I would not be even a smidgen of the person I am today. Thank you for teaching me something new every moment since the day you were born.

Oh, Pens and Paper, You Make Me So Hot and Bothered

I was thoroughly excited last night to organize my bookshelf and watch Law & Order re-runs while drinking wine with Dan.

I was actually E-X-C-I-T-E-D.

Is something wrong with me? Like in a I-get-pumped-when-I-see-school-supplies kind of way?

Far From Home

If life was easy,

then I would be a flower

and if

I was a flower,

then I would have to deal

with rain.

But maybe if

I let the rain trickle down my

stem,

then these tears would dry

and I could grow

again.

Sweet, Beautiful Woman . . .

Why do the fingers
Of the little once beautiful lady
(sitting sewing at an open window
this fine morning) fly instead of dancing?
Are they possibly afraid
That life is running away
From them (I wonder) or
Isn’t she aware that
Life (who never grows old) is
Always beautiful and that
Nobody beautiful ever hurries? – e.e. cummings

Bekah, there really are no words except for to say that you are beautiful, and we are all behind you.

Thank God for Sundays.

Luke: Go get me a glass of water. (Kicks legs up and puts sunglasses on.)

Me: Go get it yourself, lazy butt.

Luke: Mmm, mmm . . .  It’s God’s day.
